Cincinnati homicide investigators have arrested a man in Minneapolis in connection with a fatal shooting last summer during a block party in Winton Terrace.
Earake Thomas, 26, formerly of Cincinnati, was arrested on a murder warrant and is awaiting extradition in the June 30 shooting that left seven people injured and killed 24-year-old Idris Cockrell.
Police say Thomas was upset after a firecracker went into his car during the block party before returning a few minutes later with a gun.
"They were throwing fireworks around and an M-80 went into his car," said homicide officer Sgt. Lisa Thomas. "(Thomas) came back and started shooting."
Thomas left Cincinnati after the shooting, but witnesses helped police find him in Minneapolis.
"This is just good, old-fashioned police work," Sgt. Thomas said. "People don't think we keep looking, but we do."
