Fitness Calendar



Tai Chi/Qi Gong

World Tai Chi /Qi Gong Day event 10-11 a.m. Saturday at gym at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, 3520 Central Parkway, Clifton. Free.

The fourth-annual event, with more than 100 countries participating, is intended to send "a wave of healing chi (energy) around the globe." Practice begins at 9:15 a.m. If you are new to these two gentle martial arts forms, follow along the best you can or just observe.

Sand volleyball

Hamilton County Park District's spring/summer registration is under way. Play begins April 29 at Francis RecreAcres, 11982 Conrey Road, Sharonville. Co-rec six-person teams will play Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Cost: $175 per team for one season; $325 per team for two seasons; $475 per team for three seasons.

Walks and runs

• Cincinnati Parks' "Wildflowers at Twilight" walk, 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Stanbery Park, Oxford Avenue, Mount Washington. Free.

Join a park naturalist for a 1-mile walk rated moderate.

• Cincinnati Parks' "Spring Beauties" wildflowers hike, 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at California Woods Nature Preserve, 5400 Kellogg Ave., California. Free. Reservations requested: 231-8678.

• American Cancer Society's "Relay For Life" of Campbell County, team captains' meeting 6:30 p.m. next Monday at Philip N. Carrico Branch, Campbell County Public Library, 1000 Highland Ave., Fort Thomas.

The 12-hour relay (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) is June 13. Similar relays will be different dates in Boone and Kenton counties.

Fitness fair

"Springfair," the first Women's Health and Fitness Fest, will be 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday in the Victoria Room at Fairfield Banquet & Convention Center, 74 Donald Dive, Fairfield. Free.

Sponsored by Fairfield Jazzercise Center for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the fair will offer low- and no-cost health screenings, spa and beauty services, exercise, nutrition and body care products and speakers. Child care available.

Backpacking

Central Parkway YMCA's "Colorado Fourteeners" or "Mount Whitney" backpacking trip registration is open. Limit: 12 people per trip. Cost: $350 for Y members, $400 for non-members (plus airfare).

Hike 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado (July 19-26) or Mount Whitney's 14,497-foot summit in California's Sierra Nevada (Sept. 20-27). Portion of fees will benefit the YMCA Scholarship Fund.
