Argentina upset defending champion Russia in the Davis Cup quarterfinals Saturday, while Australia and Spain advanced.

Switzerland led France 2-1 in their best-of-5 series.

Spain will host Argentina in the Sept. 19-21 semis, and Australia will meet Switzerland or France.

In Buenos Aires, Wimbledon finalist David Nalbandian paired with Lucas Arnold to beat Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Mikhail Youzhny 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3, giving the hosts an insurmountable 3-0 lead against the Russians. Youzhny filled in for 2000 U.S. Open champion Marat Safin, who had an ankle injury.

In Valencia, Spain, French Open champion Albert Costa and Alex Corretja defeated Ivan Ljubicic and Lovro Zovko 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 to put 2000 Davis Cup champion Spain ahead of Croatia 3-0.

In Malmoe, Sweden, Wayne Arthurs and Todd Woodbridge allowed Australia to take a 3-0 lead against the hosts by topping Jonas Bjorkman and Thomas Enqvist 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. Australia has reached the semifinals four of the last five years, but their only title in that span came in 1999.

And in Toulouse, France, Roger Federer and Marc Rosset downed Nicolas Escude and Fabrice Santoro 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) to give the Swiss their 2-1 lead against the 2001 Davis Cup winners.

SARASOTA CLAY: Anastasia Myskina defeated Nathalie Dechy 6-2, 6-4 and Alicia Molik beat Iva Majoli 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals.

CASABLANCA: Second-seeded Rita Grande beat fellow Italian Antonella Serra Zanetti 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to win the Grand Prix de SAR for her third WTA Tour title. It was Grande's fourth final and first championship since 2001.
