ATLANTA - Michael Jordan played another farewell game in Atlanta. This time, he was upstaged by Shareef Abdur-Rahim.

Abdur-Rahim, who finished with 24 points, made a desperation shot at the buzzer to give the Hawks a 91-89 victory over Jordan and the Washington Wizards on Thursday night.

It was a far cry from Jordan's last farewell in Atlanta. Before retiring a second time in 1998, His Airness lured the largest crowd in NBA history - 62,046 - to the Georgia Dome.

With his usual flare for the dramatic, Jordan scored 34 points that night to lead the Chicago Bulls to an 89-74 victory over the Hawks.

Jordan struggled most of the game Thursday night before leading a frenetic comeback. He scored 12 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, and also grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds.

It wasn't enough. After Jordan missed a potential winning shot, the Hawks rebounded, called a timeout and were given six-tenths of a second to get off the decisive shot.

Lakers 100, Mavericks 89

DALLAS - Shaquille O'Neal had 31 points and 17 rebounds, and Kobe Bryant scored 10 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter for Los Angeles.

In their first meeting since Los Angeles erased a 27-point fourth-quarter deficit, Dallas had plenty of chances to break the game open in the middle two quarters. The Lakers were playing sloppy and Bryant started just 3-of-13.

But the Mavericks - in their first chance to win their team record-tying 57th game - led only 65-64 with 2:14 left in the third. O'Neal made two free throws then a dunk to start a 10-0 run that put the Lakers in control.

Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki had 25 points and 22 rebounds, one shy of his career high, and Steve Nash had 26 points and five assists. Reserve Nick Van Exel added 19 points.

Jazz 93, Trail Blazers 88

PORTLAND, Ore. - Karl Malone had 21 points and nine assists, and John Stockton had 15 points and 10 assists for Utah.

Matt Harpring added 17 points, including a 3-pointer with 17.1 seconds left that sealed the victory for the Jazz, who have won seven of eight and are within two games of the Blazers and Minnesota for the fourth playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Rasheed Wallace led the Blazers with 23 points. Bonzi Wells had 13 points before picking up two technical fouls and an ejection in the final 2:54.
