Cpl. Dan Rebich, U.S. Marine Corps, is a 1999 graduate of Lakota East High School. He is the son of Pete and Barbara Rebich of West Chester.
His mother writes:
Dan graduated early from Lakota East High School in order to go into the Marines. It was his lifelong dream - to be a Marine. As his parents, we thought he would grow out of the idea. It never happened. He was determined. He has always been very patriotic, willing to fight for his country. He feels he was destined to go on this mission - that it was meant to be...he felt that he was here to help people and to fight for the freedom that they deserve.

In a second note, she adds:
Last Friday, I got two postcards from him from Kuwait. They were almost overlooked in the mail as they were actually made of the cardboard backing of a chili and macaroni dinner that he had consumed. They were in postcard form - the top right corner was marked "free'' and my address was below. To the left, was his message. At the top was written "Postcard from Kuwait.'' He mentioned that the package was all he had to write on. I'm thankful that the post office delivered those two precious postcards. He mentioned that they were involved in a lot of training and were lucky to get a shower once a week. He also said that they were getting a few hot meals and that the food was good. He said he also has grown a mustache. His morale was very good and he feels motivated to do whatever he has to do.
I have a single white candle in his window all of the time. As I told Dan, the candle will be lit until he comes home. This is my way of honoring him. I am proud of my son and all of the other military men and women who are serving their country.
