Today's money tip

Detailed financial record-keeping minimizes the chances for mistakes and miscalculations. Canceled checks and receipts are often the best proof available when there's a discrepancy.

Also, you'll need your records to complete your annual income tax forms - and especially if you get audited.

Often your financial records will have several different sources, making reconstructing them a logistical nightmare. So keep track of everything, storing the most important in a bank safe deposit box or a fireproof safe in your home.
