Oscar insights


Counting down to the 75th Anniversary Oscars ceremony Sunday:

In 1944, Barry Fitzgerald was nominated as best actor and best supporting actor for one role in the same film (Going My Way). Voting rules now preclude such results.

In 1990, metal detectors were installed outside the Shrine Auditorium for the Oscar ceremony. They have been used every year since.

Marty (1955) is the only best-picture winner based on a television drama. It is also the shortest: 91 minutes.
