Hull hat trick lifts Wings
Red Wings 6, Senators 2
By The Associated Press
DETROIT - Brett Hull's 32nd career hat trick lifted the Red Wings into first place in the Western Conference. The Red Wings won for the 15th time in their last 17 games.
Detroit, with 96 points, moved past the Dallas Stars and within two points of the Senators for first place overall in the NHL. The Senators lost their second straight game.
Curtis Joseph stopped 41 shots for the Red Wings, who only had 20 shots on goal.
But Hull, who also had an assist, put in three, and Henrik Zetterberg and Brendan Shanahan each had a goal and an assist. Nicklas Lidstrom got the other goal.
Marian Hossa and Mike Fisher scored for Ottawa.
Capitals 2, Avalanche 1
WASHINGTON -Sergei Berezin had a goal and an assist in the first period, leading the Washington Capitals to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.
Sergei Gonchar scored the other goal for Washington, which moved within a point of Tampa Bay in the Southeast Division. The Capitals surrendered the division lead with Friday night's loss to the Kings.
Joe Sakic scored for Colorado, which lost consecutive road games for the first time this season. The Avalanche remained four points behind Vancouver in the Northwest Division.
Berezin has scored in his first two games with the Capitals since being acquired from Chicago at the trade deadline.
Panthers 4, Penguins 2
PITTSBURGH - Niklas Hagman scored twice and Olli Jokinen had one goal and set up two others. Denis Shvidki added a goal for the Panthers, who had more than two goals for the first time in 12 games.
The Penguins have been held to two or fewer goals in a franchise-record 10 consecutive games. They are winless in 12 games (0-11-1), matching the second-longest streak in team history.
Pittsburgh's eight-game home winless streak (0-7-1) is the second longest in its history.
Jokinen, who had just one point in his previous 10 games, converted Viktor Kozlov's pass for his third short-handed goal of the season to break a 2-2 tie with 37 seconds remaining in the second period.
Flames 2, Mighty Ducks 2
ANAHEIM, Calif. - Petr Sykora scored twice late in the third period, including the tying goal with 31 seconds remaining for Anaheim.
Calgary scored twice on power plays in the second period and appeared headed for the victory until Sykora's late goals. Sykora beat Jamie McLennan with 4:05 remaining, then tied it with goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere pulled for an extra attacker.
Earlier, McLennan made a glove save to stop Paul Kariya on a penalty shot.
