A guide to help make your day

Going out

Jerry Springer: The politician turned newscaster turned ringmaster for TV trash returns to his serious side with his "All Politics Is Global" presentation. 8 p.m. today, Millett Hall, Miami University, $3. (513) 529-3200.

Jorma Kaukonen: The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and founding member of Jefferson Airplane hits town with the rotating gang of musicians he calls Blue Country, with mandolin virtuoso Barry Mitterhoff. 9 p.m. today, BarrelHouse Brewing Company, 22 E. 12th St., Over-the-Rhine, $16. 421-2337.

DJ Logic: The acid-jazz, hip-hop turntable master with the quick fingers brings his act to the Mad Frog. 9:30 p.m. today, Vine and McMillan streets, Mount Auburn, $10. 784-9119.

On TV

Top pick: It's the biggest sweeps showdown as Survivor: The Amazon debuts with a 90-minute special (8 p.m., Channels 12, 7), followed by a 90-minute CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (9:30 p.m.), against ABC's premiere of Are You Hot? The Search for America's Sexiest People (8-10 p.m., Channels 9, 2). NBC counters by pulling Scrubs to repeat a November Friends with Freddie Prinze Jr. (8:30-9:10 p.m., Channels 5, 22), followed by an expanded Will & Grace with Demi Moore (9:15-10 p.m.) and Sally Field back on ER (10 p.m.).

Critic John Kiesewetter also says don't bother watching Fox's Joe Millionaire (8 p.m., Channels 19, 45) rerun from Monday because he doesn't pick his mate.

The goods

V-Day emergency: It's down to the wire and you forgot a Valentine's Day card. Try an e-card from www.coloringcards.com. What makes this different from other sites is you design your own card. Select a border from several pre-prepared jobs. Then, using the I-Draw applet, create a drawing. Finally, add a mushy message and maybe some music. Then send it and you're out of hot water. The best part is it's free, so if your beloved dumps you, you're not out $3.95 (plus tax).

Planning ahead

24 hours out: The over-the-top troupe Friends of Lucy celebrates Valentine's Day with A Comedy Love Show, a batch of original sketches and improvisations on the topic of love. 9 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Monmouth Theater, 636 Monmouth St., Newport, $14. 588-0513.

48 hours out: Inspired Interiors by Globe (formerly Globe Furniture) shares ideas on romanticizing your home in a free "Design to Your Heart's Desire" workshop. 11 a.m. Saturday at the downtown location (1650 Central Parkway), 1 p.m. at the Montgomery store (12030 Montgomery Road). Reservations encouraged. 421-3330.

72 hours 'til Sunday: Bon Jovi's only regional stop on its Bounce tour is 7:30 p.m. at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, $39.50-$65. (614) 431-3600.
