Hockey Today

STARS

Thursday

- Glen Murray, Bruins, had two goals and an assist in Boston's 4-1 win over Pittsburgh.

- Ramzi Abid, Coyotes, scored twice in the first period and added an assist as Phoenix topped Calgary 7-1.

- Marian Gaborik and Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Wild, each had a goal and an assist as Minnesota held off Los Angeles 2-1.

THREE-TEAM TRADE

Holdout Boston defenseman Kyle McLaren was traded to San Jose on Thursday in a three-team deal that sent forward Niklas Sundstrom to Montreal. The Bruins acquired goalie Jeff Hackett from the Canadiens and defenseman Jeff Jillson from the Sharks. Montreal got the Sharks' third-round selection in the 2004 draft, while Boston sent a fourth-round pick in 2004 to San Jose.

SUCCESSFUL HOMECOMING

Rangers goalie Mike Dunham faced Nashville for the first time since being traded to New York on Dec. 12 and made 28 saves in a 4-2 victory Thursday night. One of his saves came on a first-period penalty shot by Rem Murray, who was one of three players taken by Nashville in the swap.

LATE MAGIC

St. Louis rallied from a three-goal deficit by scoring three times in the third period for a 3-3 tie at Chicago on Thursday night. The Blues have outscored opponents 72-40 this season in the final period.

BRICK WALLS

Colorado's Patrick Roy recorded his first shutout of the season and 62nd of his career by making 18 saves in a 5-0 win over Columbus on Thursday night. ... Zac Bierk stopped 39 shots in Phoenix's 7-1 rout of Calgary.

BRIEF CELEBRATION

Pittsburgh snapped a scoreless streak of 158 minutes, 42 seconds when Milan Kraft tallied in the first period, but were shut out the rest of the way in a 4-1 loss to Boston on Thursday night. Without that goal, the Penguins would have broken their scoreless streak record of 183 minutes, 15 seconds set in 1979-80, when coach Rick Kehoe was a player.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH

Colorado improved to 10-0 against Columbus with a 5-0 win Thursday night. The Avalanche, who also posted a 5-4 win over the Blue Jackets on Nov. 12, have scored at least four goals in nine of those games.

DOUSING THE FLAMES

Backed by a four-goal first period, Phoenix improved to 8-0-2 in Calgary since Oct. 30, 1997, with a 7-1 win Thursday night. Since moving from Winnipeg, the Coyotes are 18-3-4 against the Flames.

OFF THE HOOK

Chicago's Theo Fleury won't be suspended after police said Thursday he was intoxicated and involved in a fight at a strip club in Columbus, Ohio. Doctors treating Fleury in the NHL's substance abuse aftercare program could have placed him in Stage 3 of the program, which carries a minimum six-month suspension.

SIDELINED

New York Islanders goalie Chris Osgood will be out up to a month after spraining his left ankle Tuesday against the New York Rangers. In the same game, Islanders Eric Cairns dislocated a shoulder and is expected to be out about six weeks.

SPEAKING

"I'm glad I got one (win) in. I wouldn't want to go back (to the minors) off my first two." - Andrew Raycroft after making 35 saves Thursday night in Boston's victory over Pittsburgh.
