Three teachers to get $500 grants

TRENTON - Teachers in three Edgewood Schools will receive $500 Partnership With Schools grants awarded by the Butler County Rural Electric Cooperative.

Middle school math teacher Lori Spinelli will use her money to fund "Problem Solving on the Edge," a Family Math Night program that gives students and parents the opportunity to work together to solve problems.

A proposal written by Edna Huston, a third-grade teacher at Seven Mile Elementary, will provide materials for three classes to build an electric lamp as part of their study of electricity and magnetism.

Kathy Vennefron, a fifth-grade teacher at Bloomfield Elementary, will use her grant to pay for nonfiction, multicultural reading materials for 120 students.

One of the goals is to use nonfiction books with multicultural themes to educate students and create an environment of understanding and tolerance.
