Academy No. 1 in state in fitness
Miami Valley Christian Academy, of Newtown, has been named state champion for the Presidential Fitness Award for the 2001-2002 school year. The state, including all private and public schools, is divided into three categories according to student population.
The academy had the largest percentage of students winning the top award in the state in its category.
Cadet training
The following have completed basic cadet training and earned the rank of cadet fourth class at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.:
Kristin Pearson, an Ursuline Academy graduate and daughter of Judy Pearson of Mason.
John Green Jr., a Lakota East High School graduate and son of Jamie and John Green of West Chester Township.
Two get keys
Two students from Ohio State University have been elected members of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation's oldest society for undergraduates:
Christina Robb, a senior English major. She is an Anderson High School graduate and the daughter of Kathleen Robb of Anderson Township.
Anne Rohs, a senior majoring in molecular genetics. She is a Summit Country Day School graduate and daughter of Mary and Robert Rohs of Wyoming.
A Rising Star
Tammy Solomon has been recognized as a 2002 Rising Star by the YWCA Academy of Career Women of Achievement. Candidates are nominated by an academy member, and their professional credentials are reviewed by the YWCA Board of Directors before acceptance into the group of young professional women.
Ms. Solomon, of Winton Place, is a third-grade teacher at Woodlawn Elementary School.
Top orchestra
These six members of the Princeton High School Orchestra were selected to participate in the 2002 Southwest Ohio Regional Honors Orchestra:
Jeff Hannon and Vanessa Rakel, violin; Victoria Cheu, viola; Katherine Sand, cello; and Eric Schaefer and Lauren Mehlberth, string bass.
