Today's Bowl Games



Music City Bowl

Minnesota (7-5) vs. Arkansas (9-4)

When: 2 p.m. today.

Where: The Coliseum,

Nashville, Tenn.

TV: ESPN.

Line: Arkansas by 7 1/2.

Series record: First meeting.

Last meeting: First meeting.

Bowl records: Minnesota 2-5; Arkansas 10-19-3.

Last bowl appearance: Minnesota lost to N.C. State 38-30 in the 2000 Micron.com Bowl; Arkansas lost to Oklahoma 10-3 in the 2000 Cotton Bowl.

Coaches: Minnesota's Glen Mason (33-37, sixth season; 92-101-1 overall); Arkansas' Houston Nutt (39-22, fifth season; 75-44 overall).

What to look for: Both teams can run the ball, but Arkansas is better at stopping it. The Razorbacks' defense is 11th nationally against the run, while Minnesota's defense is 93rd. Golden Gophers sophomore Terry Jackson rushed for 1,281 yards and six TDs. Arkansas senior Fred Talley rushed for 1,086 yards and two TDs.

Seattle Bowl

Wake Forest (6-6) vs. Oregon (7-5)

When: 5:30 p.m. today.

Where: Seahawks Stadium.

TV: ESPN.

Line: Oregon by 7.

Series record: Wake Forest leads 1-0.

Last meeting: 1992 Independence Bowl (Wake Forest, 39-35).

Bowl records: Wake Forest 3-2; Oregon 7-9.

Last bowl appearance: Wake Forest beat Arizona State 23-3 in the 1999 Aloha Bowl; Oregon beat Colorado 38-16 in the 2002 Fiesta Bowl.

Coaches: Wake Forest's Jim Grobe (12-11, second season; 45-44-1 overall); Oregon's Mike Bellotti (67-28, eighth season).

What to look for: Oregon will try to slow down Wake Forest's running game. Luckily for the Beavers, the Demon Deacons run the ball 72 percent of the time. Oregon, with the Pacific-10 Conference's worst total defense (402.0 yards per game), has enjoyed success against the run, ranking 15th nationally in rushing defense (106.7 ypg.).
