Styrofoam steps up as decoration

Holidays / Lite

If you think the white stuff that rules the season is snow, think again. It's Styrofoam, that stiff foam from Dow that is cut, covered and glued into hundreds of crafts year-round.

A visit to the Styrofoam Web site - www.styrofoamcrafts.com - takes you to a "projects room," with a half-dozen categories for making home accessories to holidays, Christmas and kids crafts. You pick a project type and receive photos and step-by-step instructions on angels, snowmen, wreaths, topiaries and dozens of seasonal products. There's even a craft club and sites for professional craft and floral designers.

One project we liked was this door decoration made form a child's snow shovel, 14 Styrofoam balls, green acrylic paint, glitter, ribbon, gel glue and a glue gun.
