Four stolen horses recovered

By Kevin Aldridge
The Cincinnati Enquirer

Four horses stolen from two Tristate farms within the last 16 days were recovered by police Saturday.

In Clermont County, Tim Waechter said two horses stolen from his family's Goshen Township farm Thanksgiving night were recovered by authorities in Bracken County, Ky. and Michigan.

Princess, a 10-year-old chestnut Arabian mare, was found in Kentucky and Rainbow, a 17-year-old chestnut Arabian/saddlebred mare, was found in Michigan.

Both mares were returned to the Waechter family farm late Saturday.

In Warren County, Holly Buflod said two horses stolen Dec. 5 from her family's Wayne Township farm were recovered. One was found in Michigan; the other's location has not been released. The family expects to have the horses back later today.

Goshen Township police were tight-lipped Saturday about potential suspects. Police Chief Ray Snyder is expected to release details Monday.

The Waechter family said tips from an Indiana horse auctioneer who recognized Princess from a flier posted at an auction house helped lead to the recovery.

He said all four horses ended up at the same auction house about a week apart but he didn't specify where. They were brought in by the same person. Princess may have been sold as many as four times in two weeks, Mr. Waechter said. The person who ended up with Princess had no idea that the mare had been stolen, he said.
