Rifles found; soldier arrested
The Associated Press
FRANKFORT - An Army National Guard soldier was arrested by federal agents after the recovery of four rifles that had been stolen from an armory.
Sometime between Oct. 12 and Dec. 5, four M-16 rifles were removed from a vault at the Louisville Fairgrounds armory by a supply sergeant, according to the Kentucky National Guard.
Cpl. Randall J. Shofner II, of Mount Sherman, was arrested on drug charges Friday morning, said Lt. Col. Phil Miller, a spokesman for the guard. "As a result of his arrest and an investigation, the rifles were recovered later today (Friday)," Lt. Col. Miller said.
It is unclear how Cpl. Shofner was connected with the stolen rifles.
