Steady snowfall that began about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and was forecast to continue through the night could mean some Tristate residents will wake up today to as much as 6 inches of snow.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington originally forecast 2 to 4 inches of snow for most of the area, but late Wednesday revised that estimate to 6 inches for some areas.
A winter weather advisory was issued for the Tristate, and a winter storm warning was issued for some northern counties in Kentucky and parts of southeast Ohio. Areas north of Hamilton County were expected to get less snow, while snowfall was expected to be greater south of the Ohio River. Icy bridges and overpasses also were predicted.
Police reported a number of slick roads, with one of the worst locations at Interstate 275 and Ohio 4 in Springdale. There were no reports of serious injuries.
The city of Cincinnati deployed 75 salt trucks Wednesday, and by midnight had treated some roads twice.
"We'll be out throughout the night so the morning rush won't be a problem," said Diana Frey of the city's public services department.
An accident on Spring Grove Avenue knocked down two telephone poles, allowing wires to fall into the street, but there were no serious injuries, authorities said.
In Ohio, a number of schools announced closings for today, most of them in Brown County. Northern Kentucky schools that will be closed include Boone County and Kenton County schools and Covington Catholic High School. In Indiana, Bright Local Schools will be closed today.
