NKU men win GLVC opener

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Brenden Stowers scored 15 points and had four steals Saturday to lead Northern Kentucky University past Quincy University 79-68 in Regents Hall.
Mike Kelsey added 12 points for NKU, which improved to 4-0 overall, 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse shot 61.5 percent from the field in the first half to build a 45-32 lead at intermission.
Chris Seabrooks finished with 10 points and five rebounds for NKU, which made 27 of 33 free throw attempts. The Norse forced the Hawks into 22 turnovers and won despite Quincy's 37-24 rebounding advantage.
Adam Howell added nine points for NKU, while teammate Quentin Smith finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
Bobby St-Preux and Jordan Stowers added nine points each for the Norse, and Jesse Rupe finished with eight points. Brian McNeil led Quincy with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
NKU holds a 14-1 lead in the all-time series with Quincy, and the Norse are unbeaten (7-0) in Regents Hall against the Hawks.
NKU will play host to the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 7:45p.m. Monday in Regents Hall.
Mount St. Joseph 77, Earlham College 64Chris Washington scored 26 points and Tom Luther 25 to lead the Mount.
Washington made all 10 of his free throws, and Luther made nine of 14 shots from the field. The Mount improved to 4-1.
Ind.-Pur.-Ft. Wayne 76, E. Kentucky 69FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Ric Wyand scored 22 points, including four of six 3-pointers, to lead Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne.
The Mastodons' (1-5) Jeremy King hit a field goal and a 3-pointer to start a 5-0 run with 2:29 remaining.
Matt Witt scored 17 points and Jon Bentley added 14 for Eastern Kentucky.
IPFW shot 50 percent in the second half, while Eastern Kentucky was limited to 40 percent shooting.
WomenNKU 51, Quincy 46
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Amy Mobley scored 16 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and finished with three blocked shots for the Norse.
It was the GLVC opener for both teams.
Mobley, a senior forward from Harrison High, also added three assists as NKU improved to 2-1 (1-0).
Bridget Flanagan added 15 points for NKU, which built a 30-18 halftime lead by limiting Quincy to just 18.2 percent shooting from the field.
NKU will play host to the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 5:30p.m. Monday in Regents Hall.

Thomas More (2-1) will play Centre today.
