Police get $60,000 from estate
Anne Wynn, a former Deer Park resident, always had a year-round present of thanksgiving for the Deer Park Police Department - weekly visits to bring cookies and other food.
She died last year, but her generosity lives on and this Thanksgiving's present is bigger. A $60,000 check will be presented to the department on behalf of Ms Wynn's estate.
The presentation will take place at 7 p.m., Dec. 9 during a City Council meeting.

About 700 inner-city children will get a special treat this year because of a $5,000 grant from Fifth Third Bank.
St. Nicholas will be involved, too. He will show up at Old St. Mary's Church, 123 E. 13th St., Over-the-Rhine, Dec. 6 to celebrate the holidays with the kids from Washington Park, Rothenberg, Heberle, St. Francis, St. Joseph and St. Peter Claven, all Over-the-Rhine schools.
The celebration will include caroling, tree decorating and presenting every child from pre-school to fourth grades with gifts. Gifts include hats, gloves, socks, school supplies, fruit, candy, cookies, small toys and family treats.
Tom Partridge, a vice president at Fifth Third, will help St. Nick pass out the gifts.
St. Mary has served the Over-the-Rhine community since 1842. St. Nicholas Day for the area children started in 1985.
Representatives of the Sam's Club donated $1,200 to the Green Township Fire Department during a trustees' meeting at the township administration building, 6303 Harrison Ave.,
Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Kottie said the money will be used to buy equipment for the fire safety training house, including a new nontoxic smoke generator.
He said the fire safety house is a mock-up of a two-story house, used to teach children and adults about fire safety.
Thousands of children have been taught fire safety lessons using the house.
