QUESTION: I have noticed traffic delays on northbound Interstate 71, starting at Red Bank Road exit, are often caused by interstate truckers. Trucks entering the highway from the Norwood Lateral in the left lane are unable to maintain speed going up the long I-71 hill to Kenwood. By the time truckers realize they are slowing down the high speed lane, they are unable to merge right because of traffic density and motorists passing then on the right. A sign approaching the hill warning truckers of the grade and advising them to merge right appears warranted. - David W. Parran,
Loveland
ANSWER: Joseph B. Bassil, traffic maintenance engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation, said the situation was investigated and a traffic advisory sign is warranted. The sign will be placed about 1,000 feet north of the Norwood Lateral entrance ramp and will be added in about two months. It will read: "Slower Traffic Keep Right."
Q: When will Second Street be completed between Plum and Vine streets? For two years now, construction workers have blocked one or more lanes, causing traffic backups. - Charles Hatfield,
Springdale
A: Cincinnati Traffic Engineer Steve Bailey said contractors recently applied a final sealant to the pavement, and work is complete. There may be future lane closures to allow for construction of the Underground Railroad Freedom Center and other projects along the south side of Second Street. For the most part, however, all lanes will be open.
Q: Are there any plans to install a left turn signal at the intersection of Ohio32 and Elick Lane in Batavia Township? Attempting to turn west from Elick onto Ohio 32 can involve several light changes. -
Karen Cossman, Batavia
A: Mr. Bassil said the Clermont County engineer's office is working on a roadway improvement project at this intersection.
Once the intersection project is finished, ODOT plans to add left turn signals.
