UK's Daniels benched for four games
College basketball notes
The Associated Press
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kentucky junior forward Erik Daniels (Princeton High) must serve an NCAA-mandated four-game suspension because he participated in two summer basketball leagues. NCAA rules allow college basketball players to participate in one sanctioned league per summer.
"This is a tough blow depth-wise for our basketball team," Wildcats coach Tubby Smith said Thursday. "He had received permission to play in the league here, and when he went home to visit his family in Cincinnati, he ended up playing with his old friends in a league there (Deveroes Summer League). We asked the NCAA to reconsider on his behalf, but our appeal was denied."
Daniels will not make the trip to the Maui Invitational next week and will also miss the Dec.3 home opener against High Point. His first opportunity for game action will be Dec.7 at North Carolina.
UK SIGNEES: Bobby Perry, a 6-foot-8 swingman from Durham, N.C., and Sheray Thomas, a 6-8 forward from Montreal, Quebec, have signed with UK, Smith announced.

Eastern Illinois falls to 1-1. The Panthers got only seven points from Henry Domercant, who scored 36 in the season-opening victory over Boise State.
