Junior college quarterback passes for 781 yards
SUISUN CITY, Calif. - College of Marin quarterback Geary Davenport passed for 781 yards and nine touchdowns Saturday. But the junior college in Kentfield, Calif., lost - 72-69 to Solano Community College.
Davenport completed 44 of 64 passes.
"I really don't know what to say," he said. "Things were just open. We played hard. It just turned out we couldn't come away with the victory."
National community college records were not available.
The most yards passing by any NCAA quarterback was 731, set by Zamir Amin of Division III Menlo College two years ago against California Lutheran.
Marin receiver Nick Royer also had a spectacular day. He broke the national JC record for career receptions when he made 16 catches for 265 yards and two touchdowns.
Coming into the game, he only need five receptions to break the mark of 164. He now has 94 receptions for 1,316 yards and 14 touchdowns this season.
