Some Good News

Give Back drive seeks donations

map

Give Back Cincinnati, a volunteer leadership organization, is planning what may be the biggest one-day food and clothing drive here to benefit the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

The drive is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Zack Zitko, director of public relations for Give Back Cincinnati, said the group will get help from Gold Star Chili and Panera Bread.

"We think it really is going to be successful," Mr. Zitko said.

"With all the drop-off locations provided by Gold Star Chili and Panera Bread, it could be the biggest ever."

Food and clothing may be dropped off at Gold Star Chili locations: Eastgate at Bigg's Place Mall; 7390 Wooster Pike, Plainville; 6755 Dixie Highway, (Ohio 4), Fairfield; and 49 Donnemeyer Drive, Bellevue.

Panera Bread locations are: 3806 Paxton Ave., Hyde Park Plaza; 8115 Montgomery Road, Kenwood; 5555 Glenway Ave., Westwood; and 2911 Dixie Highway, Crestview Hills.

This will be the sixth project Give Back Cincinnati has done this year. In February, 120 volunteers painted Western Hills High school.

"We did the exterior, the gym, offices, the boys and girls locker room," Mr. Zitko said.

In April, the group gave a "Young at Heart" dance at the Anderson Seniors Center for area seniors.

"Seventy-five of our volunteers served them dinner, and we had the Arthur Murray group to give dance instruction," Mr. Zitko said

In June, 140 volunteers from the group painted five homes in Columbia Tusculum.

"They were owner-occupied homes of people who could not afford it financially or could not do the work," Mr. Zitko said

In August, volunteers worked at Roberts Paideia School and in October, 80 volunteers took 80 children from the St. Joseph Orphanage and from the Boys and Girls Club to Parky's Farm in Winton Woods.

"Give Back Cincinnati provides young people in Cincinnati with an outlet where they can have fun, meet people and give back to the community all at the same time," Mr. Zitko said.

The group was started in December 2000 and has grown to 660 members.

For more information, contact Mr. Zitko at (859)-466-6572.
