DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre College officials plan an ambitious $40 million expansion and renovation that will add classroom and office space and improve library and recreational areas.
"With these improvements to our campus, students will be further enhanced intellectually, socially, spiritually and physically," said John Roush, Centre's president.
"Lives will be changed for the better for years to come with this bold plan."
Crounse Academic Center, the main academic building on campus, was built in 1967. It will be expanded by 30,000 square feet to bring its total area to 100,000 square feet. Renovations include expanding the Grace Doherty Library with room for 80,000 additional volumes, more computer and classroom technology, and additional office and classroom space.
Sutcliffe Hall, built in 1915 and renovated in 1962, will approximately double in size to 122,000 square feet. The project will renovate Alumni Gymnasium, add new recreational courts, build a new Hall of Fame, and add new locker rooms and classrooms.
The board of trustees of the private liberal arts college of 1,070 students heard about the expansion plan at their annual fall meeting last week.
