Tennessee QB cleared to play Saturday

Associated Press

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee quarterback Casey Clausen, who missed the 16th-ranked Volunteers' loss to Georgia with an injury, was cleared by doctors Thursday to play Saturday against No. 19 Alabama.

The three-year starter missed the 18-13 loss to the fifth-ranked Bulldogs on Oct. 12, with what was reported to be a hairline fracture in the collarbone of his non-throwing shoulder.

Coach Phillip Fulmer said Thursday Clausen was cleared to play against Alabama, but a final decision has not yet been made about him playing.

If Clausen doesn't play, freshman James Banks would probably get the start over junior C.J. Leak.

The Volunteers (4-2, 1-2 Southeastern Conference) will be trying to extend their winning streak over Alabama (5-2, 2-1) to eight games.
