Neighborhoods: Once-a-year special events
MILFORD - Starting Thanksgiving weekend, the Promont House Museum, an old mansion at 906 Main St. (Ohio 28) in Clermont County, will turn into the center of Victorian holidays.
The former home of Ohio Gov. John Pattison will be filled with old-time decorations from Nov. 29 to Dec. 22. They will include garlands on the stairways, settings on the table for Christmas dinner, elaborate trees and decorations in the parlor and, in the bedrooms, antique toys and a tree. A special event, the Candlelight Christmas at Promont, will be 7-9 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 7 and 8. The mansion is operated by the Greater Milford Historical Society, which also keeps its headquarters there. Regular house tours are offered from 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Friday and Sunday.

WEST CHESTER TWP. - The 14th annual Olde West Chester Christmas Walk, called Christmas in the Village, will be held on Cincinnati-Dayton Road, about one half mile south of Interstate 75 (Exit 21) in Butler County.
Sponsored by the Merchants of Olde West Chester, the walk will be held from 4-9 p.m. Nov. 8, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 9 and noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 10.
The tree lighting ceremony will start at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and the parade at 7 p.m. Nov. 9.

WAYNESVILLE - Students will celebrate Right to Read Week from Nov. 4-8 and learn about the Buckeye State.
Author Marcia Schonberg, author of B is for Buckeye and Cardinal Numbers: An Ohio Counting Book, will visit elementary students on Nov. 8. .
At Waynesville High School, the Book Club is reading The Freedom Writer's Diary, the story of how a young English teacher fought ethnic intolerance.

COLERAIN TWP. - Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve will celebrate its Black Walnut Festival today and Sunday. Organizers offer foods made with black walnuts and shelled black walnuts to take home. They'll also offer a tree hike, operate a walnut-hulling machine and give visitors a chance to dye T-shirts in natural walnut dye.

HAMILTON - Down by the Riverside, a fund-raiser sponsored by LifeSpan and the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 1 at the arts center.
The event will celebrate the release of a compact disc that features eight local pianists: Dave Belew;
Richard Gordon, who played at the Academy Restaurant for years; John Bercaw, a professional pianist; Bryan Wallick, who studied at the Royal Academy in London and performs nationally; John Fitton; Mike Dingeldein, architect and a music composer; Paul Ritzi and Rod Nimtz, who has released three volumes of hymn records.
