WEST CHESTER TWP. - Lakota school officials plan no further action against a principal some parents say mishandled alleged incidents of sexual harassment and intimidation.
Parents allege that between February and June, their then-second -grade daughters were sexually harassed by some classmates at Freedom Elementary School.
Principal David Tobergte received a formal reprimand for his handling of the situation and must attend a seminar or workshop on workplace conflict and sexual harassment issues.
"We all agreed that we have handled this situation appropriately,'' Sandy Wheatley, president of the Lakota Board of Education , said after meeting Wednesday with a group of parents who support Mr. Tobergte. "We're ready to move on. Our expectation is they're (staff) going to do great things for the kids at Freedom like they've always done.''
At least one parent, who was not invited to the Wednesday closed-door meeting with the board of education, is still unhappy.
"We're kind of disappointed in the way the school board has handled this,'' said a parent of one of the girls. "I'd like to see them remove Mr. Tobergte from that school.''
The Enquirer is not naming the parent to protect his daughter.
But parent Kim Nguyensaid she and other parents asked to meet with the board to let them know many parents are happy with how Freedom is operated.
"I feel the school is a very effective and capable school and from the lunchroom workers up through the administrators, are all doing a very good job of educating our students. We met to let them know a majority of the parents feel this way,'' Mrs. Nguyen said. "We want to get back to what Freedom does best - educate our students.''
Meanwhile, an investigation by West Chester Township Police is continuing. Detective Mike Quinn said at least six of the 10 families involved do not want any reports filed on their behalf. Interviews with other parents are scheduled next week
