MU coach takes blame
By The Associated Press
With a 20-point lead and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the midst of a record-setting performance, Miami looked unbeatable.
Northern Illinois' Michael Turner changed that with three of his five rushing touchdowns in a seven-minute span of the second half to help the Huskies rally for a 48-41 victory Saturday.
"That was a great win," said Northern Illinois coach Joe Novak, a Miami alum. "It didn't look very good when it was 27-7. They had everything going their way and, I think, psychologically they might have let up a little bit."
Miami coach Terry Hoeppner agreed, but blamed himself for his team's lackadaisical effort.
"I told the team that this loss is obviously on me," he said. "For us to dominate the game like we did, have it turn around so quickly and for me not to have the guys prepared to the point where we can stem the tide is unacceptable. I apologize for this loss."
