INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Pacers forward Ron Artest will be sidelined for two weeks while waiting for a dislocated finger on his shooting hand to heal.Artest underwent surgery Sept. 5 on his left pinkie and participated in the Pacers' training camp at Xavier's Cintas Center last week. But playing slowed the healing process, the team said Friday.
Artest, a fourth-year pro from St.John's, was a frequent starter for Indiana after coming over in a midseason trade with the Chicago Bulls. He averaged 10.9 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Pacers.
Indiana starts the regular season at home Oct.30 against the Houston Rockets.
CELTICS: William Ragland was sentenced to seven to 10 years in a Massachusetts prison and Trevor Watson was given one year for attacking Boston star Paul Pierce in a nightclub two years ago.
Both men were acquitted Monday of trying to kill Pierce, but they were convicted of assault and battery charges.
A third defendant, Anthony Hurston, was acquitted of all charges.
JAZZ: Point guard Raul Lopez probably will miss all of his first NBA season with a torn knee ligament, but Utah hopes he'll replace John Stockton eventually.
Lopez, 22, underwent surgery nearly two weeks ago on his right knee after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament. He first injured the knee in 2001 and reinjured it in an exhibition with Spain's national team in August.
MAGIC: Orlando waived guard Omar Cook, who had seven points, three assists and two steals in 13 minutes this preseason.
NUGGETS: Denver center Marcus Camby is out indefinitely following hip surgery Thursday, an injury his agent said should have been treated months ago.
Camby was acquired in an offseason trade with the New York Knicks after playing only 29 games last season. He was hurt Feb. 1 against Indiana when he landed hard on his side.
"From everything I'm hearing from the doctors, this is part of the original injury," agent Rick Kaplan told The New York Times. "It's from the trauma of the fall he had last season. This should have been picked up in February, March or April, then Marcus could have had surgery and been playing right now at 100 percent."
WIZARDS: Washington waived second-round draft pick Rod Grizzard, whose broken leg kept him out of minicamp and summer-league games.
