The Federated Department Stores operating vice president of diversity and vendor development chooses a look “that'll take her from a presentation in front of board members to drinks after work with friends.”

The divorced mother of two from Terrace Park grew up in New Jersey, was schooled in Connecticut, spent summers in Maine and has felt at home in Cincinnati since her arrival in 1987.

You can be found shopping at: Any Federated division - Lazarus, Bloomingdale's, Macy's - when I travel (about 20 percent of the time) and online.

Shopping philosophy: I look for new trends that will translate for more than one season. Like top-stitching. I am buying a lot of that now. If you don't like it, don't buy it, even if it's popular. As I get older, I realize I am selecting good quality clothes that will come back in style.

Best bargain: Three bolts of fabrics from the Pottery Barn outlet in Maine for $1 each. And a $400-$500 Guess leather jacket I got for $90 at Lazarus.

Fashion pet peeve: White shoes on men or women any time of year, even in the appropriate months.

Earliest fashion memory: When I was in the sixth grade I started sewing and taking an interest in fabric and style.

Favorite designers: I.N.C., Emmanuel Ungaro. And I have a wonderful dress by Narciso Rodriguez with a cut and finish that make you feel great.

You can never have enough: Black shoes . . . and attitude and confidence.

Sentimental clothing in your closet: I have a Tiffany Elsa Peretti necklace from a friend of mine who died. It goes with me everywhere.

You splurge on: Classic clothes that have potential to do years of service - a really good suit or a really great black dress that'll never go out of style.
