ANDERSON TWP. The YMCA has been providing family-friendly programming in Anderson Township for 30 years; and this weekend, the organization's celebrating with a family-oriented party.
The event begins with a reception at 1 p.m. Saturday. It will include games and entertainment and is open to the public, with the opening of a newly renovated part of the building at 2 p.m. Radio station Mix FM-94.1 will broadcast from the facility from 4 to 6 p.m., with the event continuing until 7 p.m. Chipotle and T.G.I. Friday's will be donating food.
We're rededicating the building; and, more importantly, we're rededicating our commitment to the community and showing our thanks for their support, said Dave Hayward, executive director of the branch.
The branch was founded in 1972, and at the time was the first on the east side of town. It was started with the efforts of community members and the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati staff.
M.E. Lyons donated a portion of the necessary funds to open the facility, and it continues to bear his name.
The branch now has 8,000 members and is part of the nearly 150-year-old organization with 22 locations and more than 100,000 members in Cincinnati, said Jackie Mathews, director of communications for the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati.
We're a very family-focused YMCA, with programs for infants and toddlers all the way up through adults, Mr. Hayward said.
