OSU's Sylvester recovering from gunshot

The Cincinnati Enquirer and wire reports

Matt Sylvester, Ohio State forward and former Moeller High star, was shot in the buttocks outside a party near his Loveland home Sept.1 but will recover in time to play this basketball season, coach Jim O'Brien said Tuesday.

O'Brien called Sylvester's injury a “minor flesh wound” and said he would not discipline the 6-foot-7, 190-pounder. “He is only guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and using poor judgment about where he was at the time,” O'Brien said in a statement.

Sylvester received a medical redshirt after playing in only three games as a freshman last season because of lower back pain and a calf injury. He had back surgery in August. He averaged 21.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and was named the Division I co-player of year for the 2000-01 season at Moeller.
