Dollar Bill to carry top weight in Classic

The Cincinnati Enquirer

Dollar Bill was assigned top weight of 117 pounds among the probable starters for Saturday's Grade III $400,000 Kentucky Cup Classic at Turfway Park.

NTRA poll
    A-S St-1-2-3 Pts Pvs

1. Came Home (9) 3-C 7-6-0-0 171 1
    2. Medgl D'Oro (5) 3-C 8-4-2-0 141 2
    3. Azeri (4) 4-F 7-6-1-0 138 3
    4. With Antcptin (1) 7-G 6-3-2-0 111 10
    5. Beat Hollow 5-H 6-4-2-0 107 4
    6. Xtra Heat (1) 4-F 8-6-1-1 102 8
    7. Summer Colony 4-F 6-4-2-0 96 6
    8. War Emblem (1) 3-C 9-5-0-0 94 5
    9. Farda Amiga 3-F 5-3-0-0 55 9
    10. Orientate 4-C 9-5-1-0 38 —

    Others: Lido Palace 29, Milwaukee Brew 11, Astra 9, Golden Apples 8, Harlan's Holiday 8, Imperial Gesture 8, Repent 8, You 4, Sarafan 3, Swept Overboard 3, Disturbingthepeace 2, Good Journey 2, Gygistar 2, Momentum 2, Bonapaw 1, Sky Messa 1, Vindication 1.

Pat Day will ride Dollar Bill, third in the Grade II Saratoga Breeders' Cup. The other KC Classic probables with assigned weights: Tenpins (116), Pure Prize (115), Abreeze (114), There's Zealous (114), Hero's Tribute (113), Miner's Prize (113), Nothing Flat (112).

Travers runner-up Repent, last year's Kentucky Cup Juvenile winner, was assigned 119 pounds, and Balto Star and Sir Bear 118 pounds each, but none are expected to start.

Abreeze, who finished ahead of Dollar Bill in the Saratoga Breeders' Cup, has climbed the ranks since winning a $35,000 claiming race at Belmont in June. The 7-year-old Danzig gelding won two allowance races before his second-place finish in the Saratoga Breeders' Cup.

“It's unbelievable how well he's doing,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said. “Every time we put him up to a test, he answers. He was bothered slightly by the loose horse in the Saratoga race, but he still ran well. He's shown he belongs with these horses.

“He's a speedy horse, and we thought he'd do well at Turfway. I wish there wasn't as much speed as there is with There's Zealous and Tenpins, but he can rate if he has to. He's doing excellent right now.”

New York-based Richard Migliore will ride Abreeze.
