Previous Cincinnati superintendents
Recent previous superintendents of Cincinnati Public Schools:
Steven Adamowski, 1998-2002. Formerly associate secretary of education at the Delaware Department of Education. Announced in June that he was resigning to take a faculty position at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
J. Michael Brandt, 1991-1998. Spent his career in Cincinnati schools, starting as a teacher in 1968 and rising to principal of Woodward High School. After retiring, he joined the faculty at Xavier University.
Lee Etta Powell, 1986-91, the city's first African-American superintendent. Formerly associate superintendent of Montgomery County, Md., schools, Dr. Powell's contract was bought out and she left Cincinnati in 1991 to take a position with the Department of Educational Leadership at George Washington University.
