Closer look at River's Bend

Several Senior PGA Tour players and caddies gave a hole-by-hole analysis of the TPC at River's Bend after a few practice rounds.

        Hole 1: Par 4, 442 yards
        Larry Ziegler:
“You don't want to get your tee shot down to the right because there's trees down there and the hill slopes to the right. It's a good opening hole where you have to have a good drive to give yourself a 5- to 7-iron appro ach.”
        Hole 2: Par 4, 405 yards
        Ziegler:
“This is a potential birdie hole because you can hit a wedge on the second shot. This green has some flat spots.”
        Hole 3: Par 4, 442 yards
        Ziegler:
“This is a straight-away tee shot, and you want to run an 8-iron up on the edge of the green and let it roll to the pin.”
        Hole 4: Par 4, 350 yards
        Jim Thorpe:
“Hit an iron and keep it right off the tee. It's a neat little hole here.”
        Hole 5: Par 3, 190 yards
        Thorpe:
“This is a perfect hole to make a hole-in-one on. It looks tougher than it is. Just play to the center of the green.”
        Hole 6: Par 5, 570 yards
        Thorpe:
“If you go left off the tee shot, you'll take 10 yards off the hole. The bunkers are just for show. They don't come into play.”
        Hole 7: Par 3, 163 yards

        Hugh Baiocchi:
“There's going to be a lot of birdies on this hole because you can attack the hole with a short iron.”
        Hole 8: Par 5, 553 yards
        Baiocchi:
“You can only go left off the tee if you're long enough to get it over the bunkers. Otherwise, go right. Hit a 5-wood or a 3-wood on the second shot.”
        Hole 9: Par 4, 426 yards
        Dennis Turning
(caddie): “You're going to see a lot of numbers on that hole. I'd call it one of the worst holes I've seen in golf. It's a postage stamp green over water.”
        Hole 10: Par 4, 391 yards
        Bruce Fleisher
: “This is not a driver hole. Definitely use a 3-wood and keep it left of center.”
        Hole 11: Par 5, 539 yards
        Turning:
“This is one of the better par 5s on the course. The second shot is key.”
        Hole 12: Par 3, 195 yards
        Turning:
“I like that hole. Keep it on the left side of the green, because the right is dead.”
        Hole 13: Par 4, 428 yards
        Fleisher:
“That's a good hole. Keep the drive in the left-center because the green is kind of funky. You have to be careful.”
        Hole 14: Par 4, 434 yards
        Fleisher:
“This is the easiest hole on the course with a long second shot.”
        Hole 15: Par 4, 432 yards
        Allen Doyle:
“It's a short hole with a good little second shot. The hole funnels everything down to the right.”
        Hole 16: Par 3, 215 yards
        Doyle:
“Sixteen has a huge green, so you just want to get your shot into the quadrant where the pin is located. The front pin will play the toughest there.”
        Hole 17: Par 4, 422 yards
        Doyle:
“The game will start on the second shot here. I've been hitting it a little short in practice. This hole plays a little downwind.”
        Hole 18: Par 5, 548 yards
        Turning:
“You could be on the right side of the fairway off your tee shot and not have a shot at the green because of the big tree. It makes you go left, which brings the rough into play. It's a tough hole.”
