Reactions
Lieutenant Colonel Twitty is entitled to a presumption of innocence. He has been a valuable public servant during his career with the Cincinnati Police Department. I ask all Cincinnatians not to rush to judgment, but to let the system work.
Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken
This only widens the chasm between the black and white communities.... It makes it more difficult to come together for constructive dialogue.
Norma Holt Davis, president of the Cincinnati branch of the NAACP
The cops out there, they all know what the rules are here and that everyone is held accountable to the same rules and same laws. I can't imagine this makes anybody happy.
Police Chief Tom Streicher
(Hamilton County Prosecutor) Mike Allen will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law when it comes to the killing of a car versus the killing of a black man. His time would have been better spent on retrying (Officer Robert) Jorg than a car wreck.
Juleana Frierson, chief of staff, Cincinnati Black United Front
It's a 12-round fight. We're early. And I've never seen a true champion give up in the third round.
Scotty Johnson, president of the Sentinel Police Association, a black officers group
I'm anticipating a deal will be cut where both sides can save face. I don't think they will drag it out to trial, and there is no way they will send him to jail. I refuse to entertain that thought for one second because, if that happened, you could only imagine what the reaction would be.
Jim Clingman, friend and former president of Cincinnati African-American Chamber of Commerce
We say, "No justice, no peace,' but peace is not even on the horizon. It's just no justice. Justice remains as elusive as ever for black people in Cincinnati.
Rev. Damon Lynch III, president of the Cincinnati Black United Front
Colonel Twitty is innocent, and anyone who knows him really knows him is confident of that fact. I speak not only for Colonel Twitty, but for the many in this community who are saddened by this day.
