DEERFIELD TWP. - Kings Local School District officials will hear ideas tonight on evaluating the junior high and high school buildings - information that will be used in long-term plans for using existing space and possible expansions.
Three architectural firms will present the logistics of how they would assess the two buildings, which are on Columbia Road. The final assessment plan would guide the district on how to better use the space and possibly expand the facilities, Superintendent David Query said.
The presentations will start 6 p.m. today at Kings High School media center. After hearing companies' presentations, the board will decide which one they want to hire.
The sole purpose of it is to determine how we address our facility needs that are growing, Mr. Query said. We need to have enough foresight in our planning so we don't come back in another two or three years and realize we need to do more.
The hired firm has until January to finish the assessment. The board then will decide what action they want to take.
Architects will project enrollment increases in the district of 3,751 students as well as consider staffing, academic programs and extracurricular activities.
They also will weigh the idea of improving the outdoor athletic facilities like the football stadium, which has been discussed for several years, Mr. Query said.
