Lorenzen gets in gear at UK
Enquirer staff and news services
LEXINGTON Highlands graduate Jared Lorenzen completed eight of nine passes Saturday in Kentucky's first full-gear scrimmage of training camp at the Nutter Training Facility.
He connected on deep balls with Ernest Simms for a 70-yard touchdown and Tommy Cook for a 45-yard strike.
I felt good, really good, the left-handed quarterback said. At this time last year, I was wondering what I was doing. I'm a lot more comfortable now. I'm definitely on the same page with the receivers. You can tell the summer work has helped. We're reading what each other is doing.
Hopefully the sky is the limit with the offense.
Said coach Guy Morriss: Jared looked good, with a nice touch on his deep ball.
Offensive coordinator Brent Pease was asked if Lorenzen's improved knowledge of the offense might lead to the quarterback calling some plays.
If I was going to let him call the plays, I'd go play golf every day, Pease said.
