Priestley has surgery for racing injuries
The Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS Three days after his race car smashed into a wall at Kentucky Speedway, actor Jason Priestley had surgery Wednesday on his broken back and feet.
Doctors at Methodist Hospital, where the former Beverly Hills 90210 television star was taken by helicopter on Monday, performed the operation.
No update of Priestley's condition was expected until today, hospital spokesman John Mills said. Before the operation, he was listed in serious condition unchanged from Tuesday.
Doctors have said they expect him to make a full recovery.
The 32-year-old Priestley was badly hurt Sunday when his open-wheel car spun out of control on Turn 2 and hit the wall nearly head-on during practice for the Kentucky 100.
Besides fractures to both feet and to his spine, Priestley also had a moderate concussion, a bruise around his left eye and cuts on his nose, left cheek and neck.
Priestley had qualified second for the race, and even after crashing, he stands seventh in the Infiniti Pro Series, a developmental circuit for the Indy Racing League.
