Ohio State snub inspires Wake star
The Associated Press
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Bryan Andrews, Wake Forest's first Parade All-American since 1984, will begin his college career in a few weeks with quite a chip on his shoulder.
The 6-foot-6, 237-pound freshman linebacker from Lima grew up like most kids in Ohio - a huge fan of powerhouse Oh
io State. But the Buckeyes passed on the prep star.
Andrews said it's a snub he won't soon forget.
I don't like talking about them too much, Andrews said Wednesday, a day before the Demon Deacons opened fall camp. All I can say is they missed out on a good player. I feel sorry for them. I hope they do good, but they better hope they don't meet up with us.
Ohio State's loss was Wake Forest's gain. Andrews, who has 4.5-second speed in the 40-yard dash, is the highest-profile recruit for the Demon Deacons in nearly two decades and could be the cornerstone of the team's defense for several years.
FLORIDA: A recruiting class heavy on offense greeted new head coach Ron Zook on Wednesday as the Gators' freshmen practiced for the first time. It was also Florida's first practice in 12 years without Steve Spurrier in charge.
Most of Zook's first freshman class faces an uphill battle on a team that will have few open positions once the full squad begins working out Monday. The only clear exception is at wide receiver, where the early departures of Jabar Gaffney and Reche Caldwell to the NFL left senior Taylor Jacobs as the only proven player.
NOTRE DAME: The school announced it is banning tailgate parties by people who party in the parking lot with no intention of going to games.
This is not a prohibition of tailgating, said Phillip A.Johnson, assistant director of Notre Dame Security/Police.
