Long Drive qualifier Sunday
By Carey Hoffman

Big hitters can take a rip at glory Sunday, when the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships holds a local qualifier at the Golf Ranch in Tri-County.
Be forewarned, however, that the competition will be tough. A contestant from Chicago competing in a qualifier outside of Dayton in Bellbrook last month won the event with a drive of 381 yards.
Winners from six events held in this area advance to a district final on Sept. 21 in Fort Wayne, Ind. The best competitors there move on to the televised national finals the week of Oct. 14 in Mesquite, Nev.
The open division champion last year was Sean Fister of Little Rock, Ark. His winning drive covered a little over 376 yards.
The championship is broken down into open competition, seniors, women's, and - new this year - juniors.
Sunday's competition begins at 5 p.m. Sign-ups take place on site, and cost is $30 for six balls.
