COVINGTON Jeremy W. Fitch, whom police accuse of fatally stabbing his 67-year-old roommate during a drunken argument earlier this summer, was arraigned Friday in Kenton County District Court.
Harold Dean Lamerson of 7 Wallace Ave. died July 26 at Deaconess Hospital nearly two months after he was stabbed during a quarrel with the 22-year-old Mr. Fitch.
Covington Police charged Mr. Fitch with one count of robbery and one count of murder after a preliminary coroner's report indicated Mr. Lamerson died from complications caused by a stab wound.
Murder is a capital offense in Kentucky, and Mr. Fitch is being held at the Kenton County Detention Center on no bond.
The two became involved in a confrontation inside the Wallace Avenue apartment June 8, according to court records. Covington Police Lt. Col. Jim Liles said Mr. Fitch, who had been living in the apartment three weeks, had been drinking the day of the stabbing.
He held a butcher knife to Mr. Lamerson's throat and stabbed him in the abdomen, according to court documents.
Larry James, who also lived in the apartment, was awakened by the fighting, court documents said. When Mr. James tried to break up the fight, police said, Mr. Fitch cut him on the hand. During the fight, Mr. Fitch also allegedly took $94 from Mr. .
Court records show Mr. Fitch has been convicted in Kenton and Campbell counties of aggravated assault twice, and numerous other charges, including harassment, disorderly conduct and alcohol intoxication in a public place.
