Bank robber had long record

Judge: Butler Co. incarceration 'consecutive to any other sentence'

HAMILTON - A West Chester Township man, sentenced this week to 16 years in prison for two Butler County robberies, faces similar charges in multiple other courts, including a federal indictment for bank robbery in Charlotte, N.C., authorities say.

And officials are wondering why Lonnie R. Livingston, 45, wasn't still in prison at the time he committed the Butler offenses, considering that records show he was given a 30-year sentence for bank robbery in Georgia 11 years ago.

Judge Michael J. Sage Wednesday sentenced Mr. Livingston to eight years apiece on two robbery charges involving check-cashing businesses. He specified the 16-year Butler sentence would run "consecutive to any other sentence imposed by any other court or jurisdiction," said Assistant Prosecutor Craig Hedric.

Mr. Hedric said he normally leaves sentencing decisions to the judges' discretion, but in this case, “I asked for and encouraged consecutive sentences, because this guy is the poster boy for habitual offenders in our system. ... Mr. Livingston will be in prison for the next 16 years, courtesy of the state of Ohio.”

Records show Mr. Livingston has a string of bank robbery convictions in multiple states dating back more than two decades, Mr. Hedric said. The most recent was an armed bank robbery that was supposed to land him in federal prison in Georgia for 30 years, beginning in 1991.An explanation for his apparent release in the midst of that sentence could not be immediately obtained Friday.

Meanwhile, Mr. Livingston was being held in the Butler County Jail, awaiting court action in Montgomery County, Ohio; two Indiana counties; and North Carolina, all of which have placed additional charges on him.
