Montoya takes pole for British GP
Barrichello, Schumacher second
The Associated Press
SILVERSTONE, England Juan Pablo Montoya will be on the pole for the fourth consecutive race.
The BMW Williams' driver clocked a time of 1 minute, 18.998 seconds on his final lap of qualifying for the British Grand Prix on Saturday. It was the fifth pole of the season and eighth of Montoya's career. The race is Sunday.
Montoya has been on the pole for the last three events but has failed to finish those races. He crashed once and had two engine failures. He is also winless this season going into the 10th race of the year.
I'll be happy to get to the end of the race and get some more points because I haven't scored any points lately, said the Colombian, who finished third at the Austrian GP on May 2.
Of course, I want to win the race, but first you've got to finish.
At Arrows, team director Tom Walkinshaw is just happy to start.
The multimillionaire Scotsman reached into his own pocket to pay off a debt to engine builder Cosworth reported at $4.7 million to keep his team out of bankruptcy on the eve of Sunday's GP.
Arrows, kept out of practice Friday with mounting debt problems, ran Saturday with Heinz-
Harald Frentzen finishing 16th and Enrique Bernoldi 18th.
Montoya grabbed the pole on his final lap, bumping Ferrari's Ruben Barrichello and Michael Schumacher from a 1-2 finish.
Barrichello qualified second in 1:19.032 and was followed by teammate Schumacher in 1:19:042.
It was a big surprise to be honest, Montoya said. I was really expecting to be on the second row.
The next three were Ralf Schumacher of Williams, Kimi Raikkonen of McLaren and teammate David Coulthard.
Michael Schumacher, who holds a 46-point lead in the season title chase, has not started from the pole since the Spanish Grand Prix on April 28.
Schumacher, closing in on a record-tying fifth season title, has six victories and 76 points in nine races. He has also finished second twice and has been third in one race.
Ralf Schumacher has 30 points, followed by Montoya (27). Barrichello and Coulthard each have 26.
Ferrari leads the constructors' race with 102, far ahead of Williams (57) and McLaren (37).
