Golf tip from Bruce Lietzke
Stay true to your swing
Bruce Lietzke, a 13-time PGA Tour winner, joined the Senior PGA Tour in 2001 after turning 50. In this week's Pro Tip, Lietzke shares his philosophy on maintaining a consistent swing.
The more times you use your favorite swing, it will become more a part of your muscle memory, and it will help you shoot better scores. I'm pretty well-known on the tour for not playing a lot of golf. Most of you who are reading this, that probably applies to you too. I'm probably a weekend golfer just like you.
My tip for the week and my tip to you for the rest of your life is to use the same swing that you have. Use that little bit of muscle memory that you have whether it is a fade or a hook, I'm not going to tell you which is better and learn to live with that swing.
Don't try to change it. Don't pick up every new issue of every golf magazine and take the newest tip from the newest guru. If you can keep that same swing today, tomorrow, next week, no matter how many times you play golf, if you use the same swing each time you play, you start developing a little more muscle memory. If you go and take lessons and get a whole new golf swing or a whole new set of golf clubs, you're going to have to find a new golf swing to go with that.
So my tip is to find that swing you are comfortable with and when you get on the practice tee, use that swing all the time. When you get on the golf course, learn to play your shot no matter what the architect is trying to make you do.
The more times you use your favorite swing, it will become more a part of your muscle memory and it will help you shoot better scores.
