What it takes to get a light

QUESTION: Wolfpen-Pleasant Hill Road at U.S. 50 is a very dangerous intersection. One person has been killed there. How many does it take to rate a traffic light?
Gene Armstrong
Milford
ANSWER: Kim Patton, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) , said a project is planned to align this intersection, add a left turn lane and install a traffic signal. Because of land acquisition, environmental studies and other requirements, the project will not be ready for construction until 2006.
Q: Are there any plans to widen Ohio 28 from the Ohio 28 bypass east to the Goshen corporation limit?
Abby Nabors
Mount Repose
A: Mrs. Patton said ODOT has a project planned to widen Ohio 28 from three to five lanes. Work will begin at the bypass and end just east of Branch Hill-Guinea Pike. Construction is scheduled for the spring of 2005.
Q: At rush hour, the Beechmont Avenue (Ohio 125) exit southbound off Interstate 275 is often backed up a mile or more. This could be alleviated by opening up the right-hand turn lane going westbound on Beechmont to allow cars turning right at the next intersection (Mount Carmel-Tobasco Road) to proceed.
Roby Stahl
Union Township, Clermont County
A: ODOT is in the process of re-timing all signals along Beechmont. Changing the timing will help move vehicles. There are not three lanes on Ohio 125 off the I-275 exit ramp. Mr. Stahl is referring to a wide berm at this location, Mrs. Patton said.
The state does not allow traffic to use the berm. It is not designed to carry traffic and would deteriorate.
