Racing promoter Harmon dies
The Associated Press
PRATTVILLE, Ala. Bob Harmon, one of stock-car racing's top short-track promoters, died Thursday following a long battle with cancer. He was 69.
Harmon founded the All Pro Racing Series and sold it to NASCAR in 1990 after years of competition between the two. He was then hired as a consultant and promoter of the organization that still bears the name, the NASCAR All Pro Series.
It's been a great ride, Harmon said earlier this week. I've made a ton of friends. Racing has been very dear to me.
Survivors include his wife, Nita; a son; and a stepdaughter. Visitation is Monday at Prattville Memorial Chapel.
