Dayton QB suspended one game for DUI
The Associated Press
DAYTON, Ohio University of Dayton quarterback Kelly Spiker has been suspended for one game after being found guilty of driving while intoxicated.
Spiker was sentenced Wednesday in Dayton Municipal Court. He must serve three days in the Weekend Intervention Program, and was fined $250 and court costs.
Spiker was arrested by a university safety officer April 28. Maj. Larry Dickey of the university's Office of Public Safety said a test showed Spiker's blood-alcohol level was 0.185. A reading of .10 is Ohio's standard of drunkenness.
Coach Mike Kelly took away Spiker's captain stripes and imposed a one-game suspension, which means Spiker will miss the opener at St. Francis of Pennsylvania.
I made a mistake, Spiker said. I've learned a lesson, and I'm ready to move on.
Spiker led Dayton to a 10-1 record and the Pioneer Football League championship last year.
In two seasons, Spiker completed 88 of 178 passes (49 percent) for 1,916 yards and 16 touchdowns. He rushed 230 times for 1,368 yards (5.9 yards per carry) and 18 touchdowns.
