Leafs' Tucker to miss rest of Battle of Ontario
The Associated Press
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Darcy Tucker will miss the rest of the playoffs because of a broken bone in his shoulder blade and a dislocated left shoulder. It's obviously disappointing, said Tucker, who was injured late in Friday's 4-2 loss to Ottawa in Game 5 of the NHL Eastern Conference semifinal series.
Tucker was checked from behind by Daniel Alfredsson, and crashed heavily into the boards. Seconds later, while Tucker was writhing in pain on the ice, Alfredsson scored the game-winning goal. No penalty was called.
HABS-CANES: It has been a few days since the Montreal Canadiens allowed the Carolina Hurricanes to score three third-period goals in less than 17 minutes, then saw a sure-win dissolve in a 4-3 overtime loss that tied the Eastern Conference semifinal series 2-2.
The Canadiens vow to be ready to play a solid 60 minutes in Game 5 today. Carolina's players also said they have to keep their emotions in check and forget about the past.
We can take a lot of things from that third period and bring it into the game (today), but we would be foolish to think that it was still in their heads, former Cincinnati Cyclones standout Erik Cole said.
As quickly as we had to cut off the overtime loss that we had (in Game 3) they're cutting that one out of their heads.
WORLDs: Washington Capitals forward Peter Bondra scored his second goal of the game with 1:40 left to give Slovakia a 4-3 victory over Russia at Goteberg, Sweden, and hand the young nation its first gold medal.
