Gun traffickers sentenced
Arrests part of city-federal program
The Cincinnati Enquirer
Three people were sentenced in federal court Thursday for their participation in a gun-trafficking scheme in Cincinnati.
Christopher M. Godby, 33, of Madisonville, was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 10 years in prison, the maximum under federal firearms statutes, U.S. Attorney Greg Lockhart said.
In January, Mr. Godby pleaded guilty to making false statements to acquire 11 firearms last summer, the U.S. attorney said. Mr. Godby enlisted other people to buy the guns for him because a felony conviction disqualified him from purchasing firearms. He then resold the guns on the street after grinding the serial numbers off the weapons.
Two people Mr. Godby recruited to purchase the firearms, Latoya R. Blackman, 21, and Terri Nicole Shelton, 23, were sentenced to one year's probation each, which includes four months in a halfway house and three months of home confinement.
The case was built through a joint investigation of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Cincinnati Police Department under Project Disarm, Mr. Lockhart said.
Project Disarm is a concentrated effort to remove crime guns from the streets.
